Latest job in Essendon sees the customer requiring the front of the house and garage door clad in timber. The timber required, would have been to heavy for the garage door to open. The ongoing maintenance cost of timer was all so a concern. There was also the problem of the timer leaching and staining the new concrete driveway. Longview shutters was asked to come up with an alterative that would meet all the client’s needs.
We chose an aluminium 2 piece baton systemin the color of black walnut. The 2 piece system allowed for no visible fixings. The aluminium was well under the weight restrictions of the garage door open. This allowed the client to use a cheaper standard door motor, instead of having to purchases an expensive commercial system. The aluminium worked out to be a far more cost effective solution for this particular application. With a 10 year guarantee on the produced, the client has 1 less ongoing maintenance chore to deal with, when he moves into his new house.
Challenging Inner City Balcony
This inner city balcony posed a few challenges with the existing structural steel frame on the front face. This steel frame set the final heights for both screens. The challenge was to keep the louvres in consistent alignment. We were able to address this challenge due to our local manufacturing philosophy where unique solutions like this are possible. The inside dimensions of the steel frame set the louvre spacing which needed to be manipulated to ensure the louvres on both screens aligned. Our ability to be creative with the louvre angle and spacing was the solution for this balcony. Mass produced fixed angle and spacing systems are very limited in their application and would not have worked on this project.
